    Episode 607: Brandon Lee Harris

Concerning my past, I grew up in Nashville, Tennessee in a family of musicians. My brother is an incredibly talented drummer and also has produced and engineered some genious records. We made a satirical pop album over 10 years ago with our cousins called 3,2,1… Famous which always makes for a fun listen. My mother is a super-talented singer (as that is what she moved to Nashville for in the 1970’s singing on everything from country demos made on Music Row here in town to singing background vox for Amy Grant. My father has produced and written for over 40 years and gotten to work on tons of 80’s jingles (Skip It!, Cinnamon Toast Crunch) and produced artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughn, Kristin Chenoweth, Loretta Lynn, and many more! All that to say, I was lucky enough to grow up in a house where music was totally encouraged and I am very grateful to have a family that loves to create!

I moved to L.A. for 2 years with my brother to do music for TV and Film and we landed some theme songs on Game Show Network, E!, MTV, Spike TV and got some songs in short films that premiered at Sundance Film Festivals nearly 10 years ago. Then I moved to New York City for 3 years to practice my acting chops or whatever chops I had including the improv scene and got on some Saturday Night Live sketches including Lazerkats: The Musical, The V-Neck Sketch, and played Tina Fey’s assistant in the movie “Admissions” and did a bunch of background roles while playing show around NYC and continuing to study improv and make hilarious videos with some of my dear buds, Crux Alpha Group.

In my music pursuits, I’ve played guitar with Landon Pigg, Frally Hynes, pre-Hot Chelle Rae, and was in a band called Mike’s Pawn Shop with whom we were invited to play Lollapalooza ’09 which was a dream come true and I’d absolutely love to get back up there and rock once shows are allowed to happen again, lol. We also played Crawfish Boil Festivals in the southeast, played SXSW, and were showcasing for major labels in NYC.

Some artists that I’ve been influenced by over the years are Andy Shauf, Rufus Wainwright, Doves, Radiohead, Beck, Elliott Smith, Electric Youth, and Wilco.

My personal music has been written over the past 15 years really and I am just enthralled to be pulling some of these songs off the shelves to share with anybody who wants to listen and I am just lucky to still be alive today after almost dying in a car-wreck back in 2004 that put me in a coma for 2 weeks and I would love to share this story on-air if ya’ll want to!
